How did you come about your username?

Postby Ten Bears on Sat Sep 13, 2008 9:24 am

One of the fascinating ingredients of the opinion forum pie is that of the username.
Occasionally I will google a name to see what comes up. Often times I'm entertained by what I find, other times I find the name to be of great educational value.

My choice of a username actually had nothing to do with the actual Chief Ten Bears, http://nativeamericanrhymes.com/chiefs/tenbears.htm
it was chosen based upon the fictional character portrayed in the movie "Dances with wolves".

When searching for something of value to use in the signature line I found this quote from the real life Chief; "You said you wanted to put us upon a reservation…I was born upon the prairie, where the wind blew free and there was nothing to break the light of the sun. I was born where there were no enclosures and where everything drew a free breath…I want to die there, and not within walls."

When I read this I thought about how this pertains to modern day and realized that I had made a good choice in regards to my username.

I'm curious about your choice of a username, how did you come about it?

Best wishes, Ten Bears

I use my real name. It keeps me honest and polite. If I had anonymity, I might give some people here a tongue lashing that I might later regret.

My username stems from my children: 2xy1xx - 2 boys and 1 girl.

Nothing exciting to look up, sorry. Just my kids and I love them dearly.

People used to call me Jellybean because I owned a company with that word in it.
Studies show that the vast majority of "Tea Parties" are hosted by little girls ;)

Twisted Thinker was given to me by a client. At the time I was a marketing consultant working on the east coast. One of my clients was looking for new ideas and I came up with a few. He told me "I like your 'out of the box' thinking. It's twisted in the right ways." From that day on, he called me 'Twisted Thinker'.

A while back I said something on this forum that a reader didn't like. He (or she) attacked me and said 'Look at the name...that should tell you how he thinks."

Well, it just goes to show what happens when people jump to conclusion. He took my name meaning the negative when it actually is a positive. Oh, well...

My Dad always called me Snooky. Don't have a clue why but he did. We were very close, my Dad and I. Even into adulthood you could find me with my Dad. My Hubby always knew I would ask his opinion and then go talk to Dad. Daddy has be gone for 28 years now and I can still hear his voice.

Being a "student of history", I was reading something about General John J. Pershing. Before he became famous for commanding the allied forces in World War 1, he was given the nickname "Black Jack", which morphed into Blackjack. I've always liked that, I guess.

My mother was infatuated with Dean Martin when I was born. Hence, my name is Dean.
