Sell The Vatican, Feed The World

This video is hilarious: youtube.com/watch?v=3bObItmxAGc

Sadly it is true though. The one organization in the world that supposedly exists only to save people and help people is the one organization that could likely end world hunger and yet... they don't. Hmmmm...

Sarah Silverman can be quite...ummmm....risque?

Yeah but...why pick on the Catholics alone? What about the Crystal Cathedral and the 745 Methodist churches we have in this town? What about all the televangelists? Trinity Broadcasting and the big Pink Haired lady? Pat "Haiti Deserved It" Robertson and and his 700 (million) Club?

I agree Dean.. I expand it to the entire Christian Empire. What in the world do they need all that money for if not to feed the hungry and help the homeless? Did not Jesus overturn the tables in the temple because he didn't like to see the church making profit from people? There is NO excuse for all these fancy churches or an entire city of lavish luxury when there are people starving.

One of the things that has kept me away from organized religions for years. Silk/satin robes, solid gold candlesticks, finest bees wax, outrageously priced incense, huge cathedrals, extravagant accommodations for the clergy etc etc etc. The other thing...the Catholic Church that I grew up in didn't believe in birth control. So... a family was supposed to have children until they couldn't afford them any more. Seriously, there was one family in my grade school who had 19 kids. Another one had 12 and even though the mother was a nurse and the father was a postman, they both had to have two jobs to raise the kids. It ended up in a situation where their kids were raising their kids. Such a shame to see all that wealth actually creating poverty and hunger.

Greed certainly is not limited to the Church. We are all guilty. I recently heard a minister say in response to the frequently asked question - Why does God allow hunger? His response was, "God gave us everything that we need, then he gave us each other." We have all failed.

I completely agree with you here. I think you know I happen to believe in God, the Bible and all that. I also believe that NOTHING we see in "The Church" is close to what Christ preached. As I was thinking about this though, I think we may be missing the point. To say "There is NO excuse for....." might be misplaced. I think we can have both. I think we (Americans, or whoever) CAN have wealth and luxury AND feed hungry people, do charitable work, etc. I don't see that there is only so much of the pie to go around, but that we can make and bake more pie. But, overall, this is a good topic. There are ministers in this town who shamelessly collect large salaries to "run" "their" church, and who call said large salaries "God's Blessing". Problem is, "God's Blessing" comes off the backs of people, the vast majority of whom don't make close to what the pastor is paid. Maybe if the pastors weren't busy sucking all the resources dry, they would be more able to help those in need.

Good Topic. ;)

I agree, but why limit it to just Christains?
